Jimmy McKenna has been making up tunes and turning them into songs since before he could actually play an instrument (some say he still can't play one). His first recollection is of singing his own tunes to two poems found in an old school history book belonging to his Mam. His first public appearance was miming to 'She Loves You' by the Beatles for which he won a lollipop. Surely fame and fortune were beckoning.......... Since 1995 Jimmy has recorded songs in collaboration with Gavin Bell and Jason Bell. The collective name for these endeavours is TVA Combination.
‘Artistic License’ is available as CD and/or mp3 download, whilst ‘Tortured Art’, 'A Splendid Selection' and 'The Pleasure' are mp3 download only. All are augmented where required by the musicality of: Bryn Collison saxophone; Mark Hand keyboards/soundscaping; and Neil Iceton specific guitar.
Further TVA album selections are in ‘various stages of undress' and will be available shortly, meanwhile TVA performance videos of as yet unreleased songs can be viewed now.
Jimmy's other solo songs are those recorded without the overall collaboration of others whilst the musicians that are featured were procured and coerced to satisfy the requirements of the song, notably where guitar parts required a little precision in their execution.
Meanwhile Jimmy has also made available a number of solo type album selections of his obscure and oblique approach to pop: 'Get Back to Your Own End', 'Tiggy All Over', 'Tiggy Off Ground, 'EveryBody Needs a Little Hobby' and 'Super Songs Simply Sung' are now available with more to come once master tapes have been located and reconstructed.
Jimmy's other non solo music can be found on the DisGuise page.
Some of Gavin's pre TVA music can be found on The Ranch page.
A sort of interview with Jimmy in which he describes some of the music which shaped him can be found on the Vinyl Guru website.
